Prince Harry ignites a new wave of controversy following his highly anticipated visit to Nigeria.

King Charles’ estranged son, along with his wife Meghan Markle, received a warm welcome during their overseas trip. However, a particular incident has stirred criticism from a royal expert.

They were admonished for remaining motionless during the rendition of the British national anthem. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex travelled to Nigeria to advocate for the Invictus Games, engaging with injured servicemen and participating in fundraising activities.

During a reception honoring military families, as the British national anthem played, the couple stood in respect but did not join in singing, prompting criticism.

Speaking about the moment on GB News with Nana Akua, royal commentator Angela Levin said: “Harry was stood there absolutely frozen. He hated it.

“They didn’t move their mouths one tiny bit to sing along.” Nana said: “It’s genius of the Nigerian to put that in there. Genius.”

Levin claimed: “Well, they didn’t want to make The King feel out of it. They wanted to show respect.”

She said: “He [Harry] says that it’s important for us to meet directly with people supporting our causes and listen to bring about solutions, support and positive change.

“There’s a lot wrong with that because it’s not his job. He is not a [working] member of the Royal Family. He’s not working for them and he is going to start repairing things and handling things and making it all right.

“And I think this is the implication, that they want to go to other places around and take it over from the King and the family because it’s difficult for them at the moment.

“They can’t go abroad because of the cancer issue. So they’re trying to take it away.” She added: “I think it’s very, very dangerous.”

Nana Akua said: “The Nigerians didn’t buy into it though.”

The couple were invited to the country by Nigeria’s chief of defence staff – marking their first overseas tour since stepping down as senior royals in 2020.

However, royal author Tom Quinn reported Charles is quite angry about how Harry refuses to see the damage he has done.

Quinn told The Mirror: “King Charles is still absolutely furious at his younger son’s refusal to see how much damage he has done to the family.

“Harry knows that no one is fooled by his father’s flimsy excuses for not seeing him.”

Harry and Meghan have hinted that their trip to Nigeria was not a one-off event, signalling more such tours could be being planned.
